If you need a data source that can measure attitudes, interests, or values, you may choose one of several different types of scales. Scales are a series of gradations that describe and measure something in a ranking way, using symbols, words, or numbers. Three kinds of continuums (scales) that you can use in constructing such instruments are described here.
The Likert scale is the one most often used to measure attitudes, interests, and values. It usually starts with a question or a statement, followed by a scaled response. For example:
